To know if your boss is a good boss is to see how he responds to mistakes. My boss, now an ex-boss surprised me at every mistake I made at work. He did that by not saying anything to me and waited till I realize it by myself.
When I was in class five, I had failed in one subject. It was only on that day that I promised myself to excel in studies to not to face the embarrassment ever again. I took help from a tuition teacher living close by and her mentoring made me stand first in the class, next year. That’s when I realized how important is it, firstly, to fail and secondly to find the right teacher.
After having worked for 4-5 years, I finally saw my right teacher in Mr Ashu Dutt. I loved the language he spoke, the attitude he carried and the freedom he enjoyed.
Its rare to find a good boss and even more rare you get to work with them. I got lucky only for a few months and I had to write this letter to him the day I got to know he has quit.
| Dear Sir, Now that its confirmed that we will not be having the 7’o clock meeting any more, I wish we could have one last meeting at 7 am where I could just THANK YOU for being such a great human being and an awesome boss. My respect for you goes beyond words. If I am allowed to say this, I am extremely upset and sad about the fact that you won’t be associated with the same organization as mine. And I wish I could change that. Your mentoring has meant so much to me. Besides your knowledge in business news & world economics, I look upto you for being a great human being. If I can put in words, I can only end this by saying THANK YOU for forgiving my on-air errors, spelling mistakes in graphics, reaching late to work and most of all, for being so generous with giving me an opportunity to be on the same platform as yours. A heart felt thank you to you :-) Best of luck for all your future endeavours, sir. Surely, there are better things waiting for you. As I have learnt from you, I will stand by my principles and not succumb to any professional pressure. After all, what's the worse that can happen? Hope to stay in touch. Good luck & warm regards. | Dear Ms Jani: In the course of a public life as has been mine you receive thousands of mails. Most you discard, some you pause to read, a few touch your heart, a couple make you choke up on emotions and one or two (and I mean one or two in a lifetime) well up your eyes. Your mail is in the league of the "one or two in a lifetime". I know you wrote from your heart and it felt like it. In the course of my lifetime, I have had the opportunity to work with hundreds of young people. And then one stands out. You know they are destined to succeed. You just feel lucky that you had the opportunity to mentor them. You Ms Jani are one of those standouts. God bless you. May success find its natural home in you. Warm regards. Ashu Dutt |
