Horse racing: A glamorous event which I had heard and read about in papers. I was finally invited for this event called Indian Oaks 2008, in simple language, horse race (not derby) organised by the company HDIL. Wore the best dress I have, sported the best glares I have and entered the space where mobile phones are not allowed! Which means I have no hot horse's picture :(
To see horses running is no fun until you bet some money on the one you think will win. They give you a book with the history of all the horses running and their jockeys. From the number of races they have won to their weight, all details at one space.
Around 10 horses participated in every race and there were about seven races which took place. I decided to bet on a horses who
were named Sweeping success, Atmosphere and Evanita (Not sure about the
last name). I am not a risk taker like my brother so I decided to bet
only Rs 100 on each of these horses one by one.
You have two options 'win' and 'place'. If you choose 'win', you win only if the horse stands first in the race and if you choose the other alternative, that is 'place', you win even if the horse comes second or third and ofcourse number one in the race. You guessed it right! I chose 'place', which means I had to win in any case and that's what happened. I bet my money in three races. I lost in two of those races and won in one. Could not cover all that I spent but the hullabaloo and the excitement during the race made the entire exercise worth it!
As glamorous as it could get, quite a many celebrities had come to see the horses running. Akshay Kumar and I bet on the same horse (we share similar likes and dislikes). Yes, Twinkle was a bit jealous but never mind. Unfortunately though Sweeping Success (Horse's name) lost and Yana (another hot horse) won!
Coming back to horse racing, I am looking for ways to get my hands on Derby 2008, which is supposedly happening on the 3rd of February at Mahalaxmi Race Course. Help me with passes I will help you with some more betting tips!
