Master Gautam Jayasankar has done his family proud at the tender age of
nine. He has won the silver medal at the Individual Kumite Event
(Karate) in the 8-10 years category. This event was called Rajiv Gandhi
Mini Olympics and was held on May 16 this year at the Goregaon Sports
Club.
A student of Our Lady Perpetual Succour High School, Gautam resides
at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. His passion for Karate started at
a tender age of six when he joined Itosu-Ryu Karate Do India , an
organization imparting training in karate. “Since childhood, Gautam has
shown a lot of interest in karate. He loves watching action movies like
those of Jackie Chan and therefore we made him join the karate class,”
says his mother.
Gautam has also won gold and bronze medal in the karate competition
held last year and early this year respectively. Gautam has now
achieved the coveted Brown Belt at the senior level. His family feels
that this sport will help him learn the art of defense. K S Jayasankar,
his father, quips, “The main aim of Karate is self-defense and this
will help him to protect himself. At home, he uses this skill to defend
himself from his four-year-old sister Nandini,” he laughs.
Apart from karate, Gautam loves playing cricket and is least
interested in football, which happens to be his school friend’s
favourite game. Talking about his future plans he avers, “I want to be
a soldier so that I can protect my people. I would use my karate skills
for the same.”
According to Gautam, Sensei Jogy Abraham, who is the Honorable
Chief Technical Director of the Itosu-Ryu Karate Do India institute
along with Ram Prasad Yadav under whom, Gautam is learning Karate at
BPCL Colony, Chembur, have helped him attain these milestones at this
age.
CG plus wishes him the very best for the future!
