Head to Della for an Adventurous Weekend!
Posted: January 7, 2012 07:23 by kamiya
Open doors to adventure, this holiday season. One such option outside Mumbai is Della Adventure Park! Over 80 exciting activities from flying in the air to tumbling down the hill to shooting like a rocket. Located a little before Lonavala, Della offers thrilling adventure sports, mini golf course, horse riding, net cricket, spa or even taking a dog for a walk.
I saw a lot of people screaming with joy, fear, anxiety and it was time to get a first hand experience. First up, I tried flying fox. Intimidating at the start but within seconds I started enjoying and didn't want it to end. Although, it is said to be India's longest permanent zip line, it felt too short!
It was then time to roll in a big zorb ball! With a natural turf incline and the innumerous bumps on the way, the journey felt way too long as I tumbled down the hill. The dirt track was next on my list and I couldn't wait to get geared. It was fun but not as exciting as the rocket ejector. It takes you four and a half floors above the ground and boom, you come down.
The best part perhaps is that fact that you can try out these adventure sports even after the sun sets. At the end of the day, after those hectic activities, a luxurious camp tent with a mountain view awaits you. Each 400sq ft tent is equipped with a tiny Jacuzzi, a plasma TV, a mini-bar sized fridge and Wi-Fi. A 90 minute drive from Mumbai, and a 60 minute one from Pune, it's certainly an option for the different

Be Wrapped in Greenery at The Tree House Resort in Jaipur
Posted: January 7, 2012 07:09 by kamiya
Nestled in the trees, a bit literally is this truly eco friendly getaway. After watching along desert vegetation, water-harvesting channels and startling crops of pink, white, yellow blossoms during the 3-hour long drive from Delhi, I was eagerly awaiting to know what the Tree house resort in Jaipur has in store for me! And as I entered, the first thing I experienced was being wrapped in greenery. If you feel like transporting yourself from a concrete jungle into nature's lap, this is the place to be. Its like a journey through jungle book winding its way into a resort that gives you more than a birds eye view to luxury. Sit at the verandah and listen to the birds or spend a night at a luxury nest or even better, be lost in the woods. If you are wondering whether you will be comfortable, don't worry, the Oriental Buzzard Nest has five spacious rooms atop a cluster of seven trees. The wood pecker suite, on the other hand, has a large room, along with a thatched sit out area to rejuvenate in fresh air. The Imperial Eagle Suite is perched high on the tree like the nest of the bird it’s christened after. It is also the only nest to house a bathtub on a live tree. But there is more in store than just the tree houses. Imagine this - a pitch dark night, the still of a jungle, an open gypsy and an urge to encounter the wild, at 8 pm in the night, I headed for a safari in the jungle close by. I was accompanied with nature enthusiast Mukesh and a torchlight but the only creature we could spot was a peacock perched on the top of a tree. Disappointed, we returned to our den. Away from the city chaos, wake up to a morning by a watchful bird or two, whose territory you may have invaded. There are waterfalls and sit-outs, restaurants here make it a lovely experience... If you're high on sports, there is a badminton court, billiards room, and endless tracks to walk or jog. But I prefer to cycle in the woods and allowed the nature to take over. A breath of fresh air explains the critical link this green cover has to the sustenance of life on this planet. I am doing my bit for mother earth by planting a tree this new years!

MESMERIZING MALDIVES!
Posted: April 2, 2011 05:30 by kamiya
If you want to experience a life stripped down to simplicity, serenity and stillness, the best place to be at, well, is home! But club all this with bright blue skies, glistening blue waters and palms trees swaying away to glory, then a place little away from home may be your calling!
A geological eccentricity nestled in the middle of the Indian ocean, Maldives is nature’s favourite creation. As the plane graciously glides down towards Male International Airport, a fleeting look out the window and your heart skips a beat. Green little patches enclosed by gleaming blue waters makes you wonder if it is real. Well, only nature could have painted a picture so perfect!
Maldives is not an island but a collection of 1,190 islands. And of these, only 201 are inhabited. Almost 99% of the country is the ocean and that’s what makes Maldives, one of the most unique nations in the world. The highest point rises just 8 feet above sea level. Not so surprisingly, to get to any island, you can opt for any of the three forms: boats, sea planes or private yachts. As you come closer to the island, those little green patches get transformed into polished palms that kindly swing to the cool breeze, and the island is protected by the beige-coloured sand, so soft that it caresses your feet, waters so clear that you see the fish playing in the depths of the lagoons. We bet, you will experience the irresistible lure to join the fish party! Maldives is visited by people from all over the world, including Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. These visitors often leave a strong influence on the people, their religion and the culture. With ready smiles, and always willing to lend a helping hand, the Maldivians are a friendly race and make visitors feel very welcome. The beauty of Maldives lies in the resort you choose to stay. Reason being, you are going to be restricted only to that resort for the next few days, unless you decide to hire a yacht for yourself! Restaurants to offer, adventure sports to try out, spas to relax you, activities to keep you busy, corner to keep you calm and a pub to keep your nights lively are few things to must keep an eye out for. Otherwise, no day looks different than the other at the resort. After all, there is no accessible market to spend an evening at. And worry not, as you begin to research, you will realize each resort is better than the other. What’s better is that in every few months, newly resorts open up offering various new things from top end boutique brands to ecologically sound back-to-nature hotels. You will be spoilt for choice! There is no bad time to visit Maldives. The temperature remains remarkably consistent at around 30°C. February to April is the hottest period and November to March is quite pleasant! But one doesn’t visit Maldives for its weather, the real purpose is to try out all the water sports there. So make sure that the waves are in your favour to not be disappointed. From submarine diving to snorkeling, from scuba diving to surfing you can try it all at Maldives. Explore the hidden mysteries and beauty of the underwater creatures having a comfortable life beneath the sea level. Another great adventure sport one can try at Maldives is the wreck diving. That lets you see the submerged wrecks of ships in the ocean. Night fishing is also very popular among the tourists. For full time divers, night diving is an opportunity to see those marine creatures that can't be seen during daytime. Maldives is no cheap destination! It’s for those who are in love with luxury and are ready to pay a price for the same. Even if you do get a cheap flight and accommodation deal, unless it’s full board you’ll spend almost as much again on food and drink during your stay. The price on the menu is mentioned in Dollars and not the local currency Rufiya and it varies considerably from resort to resort. A uniquely indulgent break and Maldives sheer beauty stays with you long fter your tan has faded. The beaches are so superior, the waters so blue and the welcome which is so warm, the island is a paradise for divers, sun-worshippers and honeymooners! You don’t have a choice but to live a simple, laid back and contented life-style. And your trip is worth it, if you come home with that attitude!

Dubai - The land of Gold!
Posted: February 28, 2010 04:33 by kamiya
In June 2006, on my way back from London, I decided to stop over in Dubai for 4 days. Dubai then and Dubai Now. Woah, what a massive difference!
Its almost like entering into a brand new city. Not that it was any bad then, but after having spent 15 days in the land of goras, the wheatish faces and the scorching heat gets to you ;-) {PS: I am not racist by nature :p} We know Dubai is hit by a huge crisis and all. Quite obviously, if the Sheikh decides to spend so much the looks (of Dubai) and the real estate market, how would the poor guy recover! But do we care? The good looks of Dubai only make it a better holiday experience for us tourists.
From roads to malls to buildings or the air-conditioned bus stops! How I wish Mumbai was half as organised as Dubai. Nonetheless, the city is only two hours away from home.
Let me warn you. Do not plan your trip during the summers. You will not like anything about Dubai. December, January and February - best time to enjoy the belly dancing at Desert safari or an evening date at the Dhow cruise.
Talking about shopping, most malls have great discounts on BIG brands during the festival but even the discounted price is more expensive than the stuff you get in India. Though, be assure you will get great variety and good quality. The choice is yours!
And yes, this land of gold has a shopping place called Gold Souk. Here, gold is sold like how vegetables are sold in Mumbai's sabzi market. It's got the best quality gold along with the most creative designs.
Its been almost a month since I have got back from Dubai but the smell of clean roads and the clean breeze doesn’t leave me. If someone would give me an option to relocate myself to Dubai, I will jump at the opportunity!

The land of Thai, you may never wanna say bye!
Posted: July 31, 2009 12:23 by kamiya
Six women left alone in Thailand for six days! When I say Thailand, I mean Bangkok and Pattaya. The former is a shopping hub and the latter.. well well well...the place has got lots to offer! Lets talk about Pattaya first. The place is so well lit up, it almost feels like the city has been decorated for Diwali.. Its got shopping malls, play theatres, beach road and the walking street. Almost everyone told me not to miss the Alcazhar show. I was obviously curious to find out what it is. I was hoping to see some cool striptees show and guess what it turns out to be? Women covered from top to bottom, dressed in classic couture, dancing on songs from all over the world and they chose bhumro bhumro from India. Oh yes and you know what, after watching the show, we figured that the ladies dancing there are not ladies but lady boys! Whoa.. Now thats what makes the Alcazhar show different. Walking Street – Oh boy - look left, look right or look up straight. All you can see is a sexy lady inviting you with her lustrous lips and flirty eyes! And that’s why I say Pattaya is a treat for men, mind you, single men! How much of a treat? Well, you gotta try for that. Also, rem, eber to try out the under water walking at the Coral Island. The only thing I remember doing in Bangkok was hoping from one shop to another. Its a feast for Women! What clothes, bags, shoes, belts, clutches, accessories!!! I would lose my mental stability every time I entered a shopping mall and then I would need two people to drag me out of the place. If you plan to make a trip there, here are two shopping places that you must visit – Soi Lum Night Bazaar and Platinum/Phatunum Mall. Both are wholesale markets and if you buy more than 2 garments, you get a special price! There’s more. Do visit the Buddha temple and the safari world. I am not a very animal’s person but I fell in love with monkeys, sea lions and dolphins after watching their show. Monkey boxing gets full marks. This is the only place where you get to see a lady monkey wearing a bikini, acting as a cheer leader for the macho monkeys who are boxing it out! So, that was shit loads of fun and I needed to get out the trip with shit loads of relaxation. Ended it well with superbly nice Thai Massage! But I must warn you, never come back home with a Swine Flu :-)

Bali: a magnet at its very heart!
Posted: March 13, 2009 00:48 by kamiya
I am at a place which is far from theworld I know and I still feel so close to the place I belong to. I will callthis place – Heaven. It’s an island where the wind of serenity blows throughgently. Salemat Datang to Bali!
Bali is a land that seems to have a magnet at its very heart. It is a feelingthat is difficult to understand unless experienced but once visited you are surelycompelled to come back and you may even want to stay forever, such is its pull.
Call it the smiling faces or warmth in the wind, besides pulling you, the placegrips you tight. I am living at Club Med, Nusa Dua and life is seriously aholiday here. Not just for me, but even for the staff here. They work all dayand in the night, they let their hair down and party with the guests as theyentertain them.
Water sports, cycling, crazy signs, river rafting, beaches, swimming pool, flying trapeze, well-designed open bar – I can’t stop but try each of these. Idon’t want to go back home and say ‘I wish I would have done that!’
Let me describe what I can see at the moment as I type this blog – A beautifulpoolside, splashes of water on the floor, green garden, blue beach, sound ofwaves and wind chimes, cute phirangi kids wearing a bath rope. One of thempeeping into my laptop and smiling at me, others enjoying their drink.
How much ever hard I try, I will fail if I put my feelings in words. I amloving each and every moment and its becoming difficult to let go off thismoment. This has been one of my best trips in life for more reason than one. ;-)
And I feel like singing only one song -
Mujhe kya gum tera ristha Gagan ki basuri se hai Pawan ki guftagu se hai Suraj ki roshani se hai
Catch my stories on Bali food, Shopping in Bali, Places to visit, adventure sports to try in Bali (must-watch)and more on UTVi in the coming week. Adios! :)

Kochi Kochi RakMaa!
Posted: December 14, 2008 03:15 by kamiya
The competition has never been closer; the route
has never been longer and the boats have never been faster. Such was the sight
at the Volvo Ocean Race, India stop-over at Kochi. All cute phirangs (sailors)
stopped by for 10 days at Kerala. I went to meet them and also to see the
flag off of the leg 3 from Kochi to Sentosa, Singapore.
Stay: If I talk about the phirangs,
I will have to start another blog. So, let me talk about the beautiful place
instead – Kerela. To be precise, beauty was at the Hotel Le Meridien at
Kundannur Jn, Maradu in Kochi. Serene, peaceful,
composed. I did not feel the need to explore much of the other places. I was so
content. We had to take a boat to get to the hotel. Cool, innit? And the rooms,
the prettiest. The sight from the rooms blows your mind. The hospitality makes
you warm.
People: They are friendly and
helpful though communication is a bit of a problem. Most of the times, you are
confused. Should I speak Hindi or English? Generally, English works. They will
all smile as you walk by. They would say hi, hello, where from? Would offer if
they can take my picture? Like I belong
to a different specie who has accidently landed up in their land.
Food: The lunches and dinners for
the first two days were with the phirangs so yes, it was a disappointing
Angrezi meal. But last night’s dinner made up for it. From Curd-Rice to Fish
Curry and Rice, the authentic keralite food on display was mouth watering and
irresistible.
Cafe: Kashi Art Cafe was the only
cafe I could go to. The most interesting thing about this place was its mirror placed
above the wash basin. I couldn’t figure out at once but if you see it closely,
it is made of a WC. Haha! But a nice place to chill out!
Beaches: The water is BLUE! I had never seen blue water in India before
this. Pretty!
It was a short trip but a lovely one. I have to go there again!
