Playing safe is the riskiest thing to do
Posted: December 20, 2009 04:30 by kamiya
I am no different than many other girls who like Rajeev Khandelwal. But there is something different about this ordinary looking guy. Just when the cameraman told me that the set up is ready, I heard his boot steps and I turned around to see the man. He looked dashing. Brown hair, lean body, wheatish complexion, sharp features and a warm smile. Except his overgrown hair but they say, its style!
Now, I am not going to bore you by telling you how affectionate I feel for him. But sharing some of his thoughts that I gathered while chatting with him, would be a great idea.
Rajeev quit the show Kahin Toh Hoga when he was thoroughly bored of daily soaps. He did not get any movie offer or anything else of that sort. Infact, he was jobless for a couple of months but eventually the film Aamir, Sach Ka Saamna and now Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Chenab Gandhi came his way. This happened much later. He had no BACK-UP plan when he quit. I ask why?
“I think, back-up plans make you weak. If you know you have something to fall back on, I assure you will and you will not take a step ahead to move further. I took a risk. In fact not just professionally, even personally. I didn’t have a fixed income but I took a loan to buy a house. But somehow I found a way out month after month to pay up the EMI. Great joys come with great risks and there is no bigger risk than playing safe. I believe – playing safe is the riskiest thing to do.”
I don’t know if Rajeev really follows the gyaan he shared with me. But you know what, I like what he said.

The Business of LFW'09
Posted: September 25, 2009 07:51 by kamiya
Yet another platform for Indian designers to woo the west! Lakme Fashion week 2009 must have attracted a lot of sponsors but has it also been able to lure international buyers? Well, this season has not seen any substantial hike in the number of international buyers. Sixteen companies and 32 independent buyers have shown their interest in Indian fashion. What’s surprising is their choice of emerging designers over the established ones. Story by Kamiya Jani for Bloomberg UTV.

I am not Punjabi and I don't intend to be one. But that's no reason that I can't love Sarson da saag and Makai di roti. And if you love what I love, then learn how to make it.
Cooking this with Bhairav Singh, Chef at Nawab sahib, Renaissance, was a lot of fun. By the end, we also danced on Namaste London songs, which is ofcourse edited ;-)
Sarson Da saag, Makai di roti and Aaloo gud ka halwa!

Kamiya Meets John!
Posted: March 2, 2009 13:10 by kamiya
Ladies and gentlemen... Boys and Girls... Hold yourbreath! Because that’s what I did, when I saw him.
I was told to slyly rush into John’s van and interview him without letting anyother news channel know that we got an exclusive. My self-confessed love forJohn isn’t a secret anymore. I enter in his van only to see there are five to sixmore people already squeezed in. Which means no words of flirting!
He tells me where to sit while I interview and I agree. Without wasting anytime, I start off and paying least attention to his answers, I continue with mylist of questions. Trying hard not to divert my mind and be lost in his cutesmile or dimples.
As we end the interview and bid a goodbye to him, my sweet cameraman allows meto spend some more time with John as he needs to shoot a wide angle of thefirst link. Now will I remember what I uttered just after 2 minutes of seeingJohn. And the sweetheart that he is, John helped me with what I said in thebeginning and what more can I add! Cuteness.
As I say bye to him once again, I thought maybe I can ask him a couple offitness questions and he said oh ofcourse, you can. And there I go. I wasn’tsure if he would entertain me more, so after the fitness interview, we said ourgood-byes and left with a lovely memory!
Watch the interview:
I Love: The way he looks at me! : When he says, 'Oh you saw that episode!'PS: Fitness questions were not a part of this interview.

The Great Escape: What a day it was!
Posted: August 27, 2008 07:44 by kamiya
I have been wanting to blog about this day since 9th August 2008. This is when it all happened. Jetlite is the worst flight to travel by. However mean this may sound but it's true. My flight was delayed by seven hours. Ofcourse, waiting at the airport was frustrating but more than that, it reduces the time I can spend in Goa. My return ticket was scheduled for next day 4 pm, fortunately not by Jetlite.
Goa is a place to be but not when it is only for 16 hours which also includes 8 hours of sleep. But then, since it was Goa, I did not mind.
So, I reach Goa airport at 12.30 am to discover that my bag is undiscovered. My new new clothes, new new shoes, new new hat, new new glares. Okay, it was just a one day trip but I had lots in that bag and at no cost did I want to lose it. Navin from Jetlite was patient with me obviously because he had no choice. They pinky promised me that they will send the bag to my hotel as soon as they know where it is.
I had to accept it. I lost everything! Oh, and I just realized that besides losing everything, I will have to spend my night and next day in the same pair of clothes!
Thank God, I had my watch on my wrist and not in my bag. It was 1:30 am and the kitchen was closed, which means sleep hungry!
Get up at 7 am and finally some excitement. Mahindra great Escape. Take your SUV off-road and unleash its potential. I don't have one but Mahindra had to give me one. Now that it's not mine, I can get it as dirty as I want to. And I did exactly that.
The event went on till 3 pm and it was still not over. I had to cover a lot of cars driving in slush. But hello, this is the last and final call for Kamiya Jani and Yashpal (cameraman), passengers traveling by Kingfisher Airlines, Goa to Mumbai at 4:20 pm. So, bhagoooooo.....
Whoof, but I hadn't eaten anything. Thought we will pack some dal and rice and we will eat on our way to airport. Yashpal handed over the bag full of food to me but hold on, I wasn't ready. I already have three bags with me and dhadaaaaammm... it all falls into my lap! Yes, the only pair of jeans which I had. No choice so no point cribbing :-)
Watch the video:
And yes, about my suitcase. It had reached Lucknow. Picked it up from Goa airport on my way back. Unpacked my bag straight at home.

How to park your car in a tight spot!
Posted: May 26, 2008 21:57 by kamiya
Tips and Tricks on The Autocar Show Judge the available parking space correctly – wishful thinking won’t help park your car.
So look for a bigger parking space or a smaller car.
This is important, don’t go in nose first…… or you risk your rear right fender sticking out on the road. So always, reverse in to tight parking spots.
If the situation is too tight, the best parking assist is not the parking sensors, but a buddy! Oh, not this one. Yeah that one!
That left door mirror is there for a reason, use it. To correctly use the mirror, slant it down so you can see the kerb and the road behind you.
During the last few inches, open your door slightly to look out. Oops, check the traffic first. Lastly, make sure you leave enough gap to the car in front.
Or he’ll have a tough time getting out and leave unattended efforts on your car.
Happy parking.
