Orkut in facebook!
Posted: October 12, 2007 02:31 by admin
With Orkut's growing popularity, do not be surprised if your employer blocks this site. Not that facebook is less popular but chances of this site being blocked is bleak.
For those who are deprived of orkuting, facebook has come up with a solution. You can now add 'My orkut' as the application in facebook. Add orkut to facebook. Log in, view your scraps, view images, view your friends scarps and the story ends there.
You cannot scrap anybody or type out anything else in orkut, which is good in a way. Reason being, you just have to paste your orkut profile link to see orkut on your facebook profle page. It does not ask for any login ID and password. Anyone can add anyone's profile to anyone's facebook profile. Attempt is just to refrain from anybody scrapping anything to anybody on their list. Sounds complicated? Add the application to make it simple.
Happy Facebooking!

Bips-Saif and a great hair day!
Posted: October 9, 2007 22:26 by admin
Kamiya Jani catches bombshell Bipasha Basu in a salon, chatting about curls and Saif! Read on:
"Mad o Wat?" That's what I told myself when I thought I saw Bipasha getting her hair washed at Sapna Bhavnani's salon, Mad o Wat. I was not sure if it was really she until Sapna called out her name.
Sporting a short denim skirt with a green tee, she looked like a girl next door yet dazzling. Although I have never been her great fan, but you know how it is when a celeb is sitting right next to you! Yes, I was watching all her moves.
A stylist massaging her hair, she looking upwards and a puppy in her lap, Bipasha looked a bit conscious.
Just when I thought I should talk to her, she posed a question to me, "Is your hair naturally curly?" I replied, "Yes" (Like, I'm a celeb and not she). Never mind, I got a reason to strike a conversation. She mentioned she liked curly hair and wanted Sapna to curl her hair for some shoot. Whoa… I couldn't feel better.
I figured that she was at the salon to colour her hair black and get some smart fringes. Unfortunately, once it was all done, the production house called up Sapna to make it brown, the way it was, for some remaining portions of the shoot. Now, Bips was fuming.
Throughout my appointment at Mad o Wat, I kept my ears open for any kind of gossip, but could not uncover anything juicy. The only interesting thing I heard was, "During our shoot, Saif often wonders how I blow dry my hair so soon."Aah…then I gathered it’s the movie Race, she has been shooting for.
Just when she was leaving, I called her out to ask if I could click her picture. She smiled, "What are you going to do of my picture? Why don’t you also come and let Sapna click the picture.” I scuttled and stood next to her. (Say Cheeeezzzz!)
I got back to my hot seat and allowed Sapna to chop my hair. Bipasha, then, tapped my shoulder and said, "B'bye. Take care." Sweet!

Song of the day
Posted: October 1, 2007 23:52 by admin
In the middle of some extremely important work, I could not stop myself from writing this post. It is all because of this song, 'Labon ko', which has been distracting me since last night. I don't know its by which artist, which movie, which actors, absolutely nothing but I have heard it for atleast 33 times since morning. I have fallen in love with this song. It's BEAUTIFUL and this is an understatement. I don know how long will this love last coz generally my love is quite short lived:P
I wanna type out the lyrics. Check it out!
Labon ko labon pe sajaao
kya ho tum mujhe abb bataao - 2
Tod do khud ko tum, baahon mein meri
baahon mein, baahon mein meri baahon mein - 3
Tere ehsaason mein, bheege lamhaaton mein, mujhko dooba tishnagi si hai
Teri adaayon se dilkash khataao se, in lamho mein zindagi si hai
Haya ko jara bhool jaao, meri hi tarah pesh aao
kho bhi do khud ko tum, raaton mein meri, raaton mein, meri raaton mein - 3
Labon ko labon pe sajaao
Kya ho tum mujhe abb bataao
Tere jasbaaton mein, mehaki si saanso mein, ye jo mehek sandili si hai
Dil ki panaaho mein, bikhari si aaho mein sone ki khwaaish jagi si hai
Chehare se chehara chupaao, sine ki dhadkan sunaao
Dekh lo khud ko tum, aankhon mein meri, aankhon mein, meri aankhon mein, meri aankhon mein - (I love this part!!)
Labon ko labon pe sajaao
Kya ho tum mujhe abb bataao
Let me know if you like this song too! We can share some CD's ;)

Payal Rohatgi: I can act too!
Posted: September 30, 2007 16:04 by admin
In a tell-all interivew, the model-turned-actress insists Dhol is her best
Kamiya Jani, buzz18
An item song is like a double-edged sword. A single number can catapult
any relatively unknown face into the limelight. Yet for those who have
tasted this fame know that it all comes at a price. Indeed being tagged
as an 'item girl' is not the best for any up and coming actress. And
every single 'item girl' – right from Sameera Reddy to Koena Mitra –
has struggled to break away from the stereotype. Payal Rohatgi whose
biggest claim to fame is possibly her item song in Corporate, talks about her latest film dhol and her future plans.

Are you ready to buy your first home?
Posted: September 28, 2007 20:48 by admin
If
you are living in a rented home, you are probably thinking of buying
your own place. What with easy home loans and tax sops on them. If
you compare home loans EMI (equated monthly instalment) to monthly
rental you would hardly find any difference in the amounts. In that
case, if you have enough savings wouldn’t it be better to be a
homeowner than be a tenant? No, that is not enough. There are many more
factors that will tell you if you are ready to buy your first home.
Here are few things, which will tell you if you are ready to be a homeowner:
Do you have a reliable and continuous source of income?
“An
individual should have some accumulated savings and also steady cash
flow from which he can pay a regular EMI for a particular term,” says
Jubin Vora, Certified Financial Planner, Sykes & Ray Equities India
Ltd. To start with, you have to be sure that you have a reliable source
of income for 20 years from now. Buying a home requires a long term
commitment and basically two factors can tell you if you are ready to
buy a home or no. Says home loan expert Harsh Roongta, “Firstly, a
reliable income stream for the near future and secondly, it needs
stability. You should be sure of staying in the same city for another
five to seven years.” Also, you cannot think of leaving your job or
stay jobless for a long time. Your steady healthy cash flow will tell
you if you are ready to buy a home or no.
Do you have enough savings to pay as down payment?
Buying a home has a host of factors to be considered. To get your foot in the door, you will need a down payment worth 20% of the home price.
While purchasing a home, you not only have to use a bulk of your
savings, but also spend most of your working years in loan repayment.
“You
should have atleast 15-25% of the value of the house to pay as down
payment and also 10-15% more as moving in cost,” says Roongta.
Typically, when you think of buying a house, the values of the house
should not be more than four to six times more than your combined
annual income. “For example, if your annual income is Rs 3 lakh then
the cost of your house should not be more than Rs 12-18 lakh.”
Therefore, to start with, you have to ensure that you have a sizeable
down payment. However, down
payment is only the beginning, don't forget to factor in property
taxes, initial repairs, moving expenses and decorating costs.
After
having decided the different parameters of buying a home, one needs to
find what is the cost that is attached in buying the home. The
acquisition cost should also include cost such as closing costs like
stamp duty and legal fees, brokerage fees, insurance and property taxes
besides operating and maintaining expenses. “One should have a minimum
savings of 15-20% of the cost to be eligible to buy a home. It is
always feasible to have around 25-30% as savings on a safer side,” says
Vora.
Is the equated monthly installment within your reach?
With
easy availability of loans, you have successfully been able to buy a
house but that’s not about it. Do not forget about the EMI, which you
need to shell out every month to pay back your loan. “In general, a
very basic formula should be used. You should keep aside one-third or a
maximum of 40% of your salary for EMI. Again this varies from
individual to individual on the income to expense ratio,” says Vora. It
depends on how much an individual is able to save after he deducts his
basic expenses from his income.
Therefore,
only if you think you will be able to save 30-40% of your salary at the
end of the month inclusive of your expenses, you are ready to buy a
home.
Are you ready to spend on home furnishing and maintenance?
Additional
expenses like furniture; maintenance cost etc are also to be
considered. The cost for furniture depends on the taste of individual,
as there are people who would be spending the same amount of money they
spent to acquire the home. “But to put it down in numbers, one needs to
have around Rs. 1200-1300 per square feet, to get a home done
completely, which includes flooring, painting, bathroom fittings and so
on. If one has to spend only on the furniture front then it would cost
something around Rs. 400-500 per square feet,” informs Vora. As there are different societies offering different amenities the cost of maintenance also varies in that proportion.

Celebrating Women's day
Posted: September 26, 2007 02:04 by admin
What women want? That’s a difficult one. Men would surely agree with this. But this group of women from Chembur just wanted to have a blast on the one day they call their own, writes Kamiya Mohan Jani.
Nor a bright afternoon lunch nor a late night dinner, this bunch of
women decided to catch up with their friends for some evening snacks
and have a blast. Taking an off from their daily chores a group of
women decided to celebrate Women’s Day at a renowned club in Chembur.
“Like our birthday or our anniversary, even this day is really
special for us and we are celebrating it just that way. We feel it’s
our birthday,” says Manju Madan.
Women and their television sets ar e best friends; this is a known
fact to everybody. Hence, Meena Lamba, one of the friends, had arranged
games, wherein slogans of advertisements were shown and the women had
to guess the product. Similarly, she had written all the characters
name of a particular TV serial, and they had to guess the name of the
soap in which these characters acted. “I thought this game would be
different and my friends would really enjoy it,” informed Lamba.
Many working women had taken a day off from their routine life to
enjoy this special day. Like Nisha Vazirani, a resident of Navjeevan
Society, Chembur, who is working with Films Division Ltd, left her work
aside to gift a day to herself and her friends. “I have been excited
about this day since a long time and have been discussing it with my
colleagues. We must definitely dedicate at least a day to ourselves
every year,” exclaims Nisha. The women also got a cake and relished it
to the core.
When questioned whether that was their ideal way of celebrating
women’s day or they would have preferred celebrating it with their
husbands, opinions differed. While some felt that they could always
celebrate with their spouses, having a blast with their friends was
unusual and fun. Meena Jethwani, a resident of Luv-Kush Apartment,
Sindhi Society, says, “An ideal women’s day would be celebrating it
with your friends in the evening and going out for dinner with your
husband.”
Some banks in the area celebrated this day by greeting their female
clients with roses. “I felt so nice when I was presented a lovely rose
and I was pampered with Mehendi on my hands. It felt great to be a
Woman. It was very thoughtful of my bank staff to do this.”
Well as we left the women continued to rock the party till evening.

Feeling of oneness
Posted: September 22, 2007 23:43 by admin
Distance makes relations grow stronger. However pleasant as it may sound it is not always true. But, the Sindhi Punjabi Community of Mumbai have worked towards making this factually correct by bringing their people on one ground, discovers Kamiya Mohan Jani
The Sindhi Punjabi community is scattered all over Mumbai in six
different units. After every two years, sometimes three years, the
committee members arrange a get together of all Sindhi Punjabi
brethren. “This year it has been the youth’s responsibility to organise
the event in a different style and the people have really enjoyed it,”
avers Anil Punjabi, a committee member. The core committee comprises of
six people who have also helped the Panchayat grow technologically by
registering most of the Sindhi Punjabi families on computer in a very
systematic way.
The event too was a big hit and people were kept amused with dance,
drama, mimicry, laughter challenge and many more. Children found
pleasure in the Disneyland with moonwalkers, balloon shooting, tattoos,
nail painting, and lots of other fun. “This is also a platform for
prospective matrimony. After every event we arrange this function,
10-15 weddings have been finalized without dowry,” informs Amarnani. He
added that in this way, people get to know each other in a better way
and this will help their community reach the acme. They even gave
prizes to all the participants and the merit holders to boost their
confidence.

Shri Sudanshuji Maharaj also graced the occasion whereas the event
was entirely sponsored by the people within the community.
Approximately 2,000 people were invited. People outside the community
were not allowed and the event was watched over by the police. The
event went on till late evening and was followed by dinner.

BEST at its worst!
Posted: September 22, 2007 23:32 by admin
By Kamiya Mohan Jani
Pijush Chawdhary, a
resident of Laxmi colony, Mahul road, leaves his house and expects to reach his
workplace on time, but this he says happens once in a blue moon, due to the
poor frequency of buses. Frustrated by this situation he says, “I have just
missed bus no. 351, now I don’t know when the next bus will come and how
crowded it’s going to be.” According to him, the buses have no fixed timings
and the condition is even worse during the rainy season.
The three buses coming from B.A.R.C to Mumbai Central, Navy Nagar and
Santracruz depot are 351, 6 Ltd and, 356 ltd respectively and the residents
near Maroli Church stop have been facing an acute problem of overcrowded buses
and poor frequency.
When contacted, Meena Dabholkar, BEST PRO, said, “This is due to the digging of
roads in that area. Otherwise, the frequency is okay.” However residents are
not willing to buy the theory. “I do not agree with this. The bus frequency
here has always been bad here. We are sick of it,” says Rajesh Rathod, resident
of Galiya Kot. Although the residents have complained about it but all that
they have got from the administrations is the empty assurance.
The Assistant General Manager of traffic, Vinayak Amdekar admits that the
frequency is poor but reasons that slum rehabilitation project in nearby Vasi
Naka and Gadkari is the cause of this problem. “A lot of people have moved in
here because of the project,” he says.
However, the number of buses will be increased from March 1 and the expected
frequency would be about 12-15 minutes.
Local corporator Rajendra Mahulkar states that if people give it to him in
writing that they have been facing problems due to poor frequency of buses he
would meet the chairman of BEST. “It would be better if the people send me a
letter mentioning about their problems,” said Mahulkar.
Commuters are now left with two options, wait till March 1 to see the results
or prepare a complaint sheet and send it to the corporator.
